Assistance to Holocaust Survivors
TZEDAKA FOUNDATION manages and administers the resources of the Claims Conference for Jewish people who managed to survive the Holocaust and immigrated to Uruguay from Austria, Hungary and the rest of Europe.

This program provides economic subsidy to survivors of the Shoah who due to their economic vulnerability require assistance to lead a dignified life. The aim of this program is to improve the quality of life of these people.

At present, there are 3 programs that provide support to the 60 survivors residing in our country. All the survivors are over the age of 65 and often suffer from diseases. This entails a high cost in medicine and treatment which is difficult for them to afford on their monthly income.

The Claims Conference program has become a fundamental factor in the lives of all these people, since in addition to helping them satisfy their needs, it allows them to receive the support and assistance of professionals. The program grants these people subsidies to cover their food requirements, medical and housing expenses.

Beyond trying to solve the vulnerability conditions of the beneficiaries of the program, the subsidy provided to them by the Claims Conference brings a special meaning to their lives: it reasserts their condition as survivors, since to this date, many of them had never received any compensation for having GONE THROUGH THE PAIN AND SUFFERING of the Shoah.

Social services for Nazi victims have been supported by a grant from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany
