As on previous occasions, once again the main hall of B’nai B’rith was filled with the gaiety and enthusiasm of more than 100 survivors of the Shoah from to the Jewish Community of Uruguay who, in spite of the difficult weather conditions, decided to make the effort of attending the Iom Haatzmaut celebration knowing it would be an opportunity to be enjoyed. A tea party was organized to celebrate the 61st anniversary of the creation of the State of Israel. This was the Third Social-Recreational Meeting within the CAFÉ EUROPA Programme of the Claims Conference, organized by Tzedakah Foundation.
Jorge Stainfeld, President of the Foundation and Psych. Rita Lion, one of the persons in charge of the Programme welcomed the guests. Honouring the anniversary of the State of Israel, Ms Lucía Barnea, wife of the Ambassador of Israel, addressed the guests.
In an atmosphere of great happiness, entertainer Pepe Bansik presented the Leakah of the schoolgirls belonging to grades 1st, 2nd and 3th of Yavne Institute. The singer, Marcos Cohen, amused the audience with music and songs. After their presentation, the young dancers invited everybody to dance rikudim integrating all ages in a large harkadah.
At the end of the celebration, the guests expressed their appreciation and happiness for the event and commented on the need of continuing with these meetings that offer them the opportunity of enjoying a special and different afternoon.
