This support program was the result of the voluntary management work of a group of women from the B’nei B’rith under the coordination of Volunteers of the Network and with the support of the Kehila and Sephardic community of the city of Montevideo. The program was first implemented during the deep economic and social crisis that gripped Uruguay. Its aim was to satisfy the increasing requests for assistance made by Jewish families.
This demand resulted in a 60% increase in the provision of pharmacological products which created the need to systematize the work to be able to rationalize human and economic resources to overcome the crisis.
The community Pharmacy (Labriut) receives the support of TZEDAKA, which has added professional management to the important task performed by a group of praiseworthy volunteers. The Pharmacy offers assistance to any Jewish person requiring a specific drug who does not have the possibility of affording it. At present, Labriut caters for the demands of 400 persons.
TZEDAKA FOUNDATION, URUGUAY joins the priceless volunteer efforts through the following actions
payment of the professional fees of a Chemist-Pharmacist to provide professional support to this invaluable volunteer work;
provision of an IT system to systematize the work;
reimbursement of the cost of drugs for the 200 persons that resort to the social assistance system.
We are proud to support this program which has made possible the supply of necessary medicines that would otherwise be unaffordable by families of scarce resources.
